Unleashing the Genius of Short-Term, Targeted Teams

1. Sign a non-disclosure agreement so the items discussed in the group stay in the group.
2. Be a part of only one team at a time. One. That's it. We encourage responsible behavior and project-hopping is not responsible behavior. Finish one project before starting another one. Do not distract yourself by over-extending yourself.
3. Participate fully. If you are assigned a task or if you volunteer for a task, do it. If you cannot do it, get assistance and do it. Worst case, admit you won't be doing it so someone else can be sure it's done. But, the purpose of this site is to provide ways for you to challenge yourself, so don't sell yourself short. Spend a little time exploring new concepts. Give something some time and attention before backing away.
4. Stretch your skills. If something is suggested and you don't know anything about how to do it, learn. You are encouraged to be brave.
5. Once the time is up on your project, it is up. You must leave that project. Finished or not, it's over for you. Do not work on the same project again. Get different experience elsewhere.
6. Do your best not to spend more than 2 hours a day on the project at the very most. This isn't a full-time job. This is a chance to learn many things, among them boundary-setting and commitment to yourself. Even if you think you 'owe' extra time for whatever reason, know that you don't.
7. These are unpaid positions. That doesn't lessen their importance. You are building relationships and resume-listings. Your team members will be serving as references for you.
8. Your past is your past. Think of this as the Wild West where your skills and who you are are measured by your current behavior. Perhaps you were always the accountant who got pigeon-holed and really was a stifled creative genius. Let the genius fly! Take on that role in a new project. Soar.
9. A sense of humor is helpful, but not mandatory.
10. Support and encouragement of your team members is mandatory.
11. If you gripe and complain and/or cause disruption on the project, you will be asked to remove yourself. Please plan to play nice and be positive for the duration of the project. It's for a short time and this could be a new skill you could learn. This is not about your ego. This is about the good of the whole. That's bigger than you. Rise above pettiness and bickering. This is a business venture, not your family that has to put up with bad behavior. Your team deserves better. You are capable of good business behavior. Demonstrate it.
